Lighting FAQs:

Simple Answers Before You Buy

What does lumens mean?

Lumens measure how bright a light is. The higher the lumens, the brighter the light.

For example, a fixture with 30,000 lumens is much brighter than a fixture with 10,000 lumens. When comparing LED lights, lumens are the best way to understand brightness.

What is the difference between watts and lumens?

Watts measure how much energy a light uses.

Lumens measure how much light it produces.

With older lights, people often used watts to guess brightness. With LED lights, that is not always accurate because LEDs are much more efficient. A lower-watt LED can often produce the same or more light than an older high-watt fixture.

In simple terms:

Watts = energy use

Lumens = brightness

What color temperature should I choose?

Color temperature controls the look and feel of the light. It's measured in Kelvin (K).

Warm white (2700K - 3000K): Creates a cozy, relaxing atmosphere. Great for living rooms and bedrooms.

Neutral white (4000K - 4100K): Balanced and natural. Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and offices.

Cool white (5000K - 6500K): Bright and energizing. Ideal for task lighting and commercial spaces.

Can I use LED lights in any fixture?

Most LED lights work in standard fixtures, but always check the fixture's specifications first. Some older fixtures or dimmers may not be compatible with all LED types.

Look for:

• Dimmable LEDs if your fixture has a dimmer
• The correct base type (E26, E12, GU10, etc.)
• Wattage equivalent that matches your fixture's requirements

How long do LED lights last?

LED lights typically last 25,000 to 50,000 hours or more, depending on the quality and usage. That's roughly 2-5 years of continuous use, or much longer if used a few hours per day.

This makes LEDs one of the most cost-effective lighting solutions available.
